Pong 8: Arabia

In Pong 8 I chose Arabia. I wasn’t fond of any of my choices this time around. I considered Zulu but did not want to be forced down a domination path. I went in with a plan already. I was going to forgo focusing on religion and make use of Arabia’s ability to automatically get a prophet and rush to Mamluks. My plan would then be to expand via Mamluk rush either by conquering player’s cities or city states. Unfortunately, my plan did not end up working.   Starting position is acceptable. There are plenty of mountains in view for science or holy district adjacency and the territory seems relatively defensible. I begin focusing on getting to Mamluks. I am greeted very early by India to the southeast who threatens me with two slingers and a warrior after settling my second city of Sana’a. I laugh off the threat. Civilization VI 'Summer 2017 Update'

Summer 2017 update released today. Change list below. [NEW] Nubia Civ Unique Ability: +50% Production toward Ranged units. All Ranged units earn promotions 50% faster. Mines over strategic resources are +1 Production. Mines over bonus and luxury resources are +2 Gold. Queen Amanitore Unique Ability: Kandake of Meroë - +20% Production on all districts rising to +40% if the city contains a Nubian Pyramid adjacent to the City Center. Pitati Archer: Replaces the Archer. Stronger than the Archer with +1 Movement. Nubian Pyramid: Improvement. +1 Faith. Receives additional yields from adjacent districts. +1 Food if adjacent to a city center. For all other districts that award adjacency bonuses: +1 of the appropriate yield if that district is adjacent. Desert, Desert Hills, Floodplains. Jebel Barkal Wonder Unlocked at Iron Working. Pong 2-3: Full Report of France

Bonne nuit! I've played Catherine a few times, not my favorite but a pretty solid leader/civ.  I enjoy the extra level of visibility, the wonder bonus mid-game, and to be Queen of the spies! Jungles, not my favorite. Enough bananas to feed Paris, though, and maybe a decent campus spot to the West. Build order was Scout > (Free Scout from Hut) > Monument > Builder > Slinger. A bunch of grassland to expand into to my north, plains and deserts to the south. Found Germany and two city states pretty quickly. The city states provide a decent buffer between me and the AI. Decent two-luxury city to the south. Found America to the north, closer than I'd like.  I begin to ponder where my first settler will go, with Northeast leading in my mind. I've got 2 scouts, so I play that card.  I take faith & gold over production because I want a pantheon, preferably pushing my presumed cultural advantages. ...
